I love Ally McBeal. The show is sentimental to the absurd, it’s a ridiculously inaccurate representation of the lawyers, and it’s, with all respect, totally girly. But I like it anyway.

Maybe it’s the skirts. The show is famous, or infamous, for Calista Flockheart’s legs. I’d feel a little less emasculated if I could blame it on pure sex appeal, but that would be dishonest. Maybe I just like Richard Fish’s blatant greed, or John Cage’s stylized strangeness, or all the quirky judges? But that explanation would be incomplete, too.

The truth, however cliche, is that I have a hopeless romantic streak and Ally McBeal’s eternal quest for true love, for the one, is really appealing.

Like I said, totally girly.
